Raising Dragons ( 3 of my dragons are medically fragile) it can be challenging, but it is also a rewarding experience. As the head Dragon, you want to provide your child with the best care possible while also taking care of yourself. One aspect of self-care that can easily be overlooked is skincare. In this blog, we will discuss some tips on how to raise a child with special needs while also taking care of your skin.

  1. Keep it simple When it comes to skincare, it is best to keep it simple. Focus on the basics like cleansing, moisturizing, and sunscreen ( yes black people need SUNCREEN too). You don't need to have an elaborate skincare routine to take care of your skin. Simple and consistent is key.

  2. Prioritize sleep Getting enough sleep, I know you laughed at this part, but it is crucial for your skin's health. As a parent of a child with special needs, it can be challenging to get enough sleep. However, it is important to prioritize sleep and make it a priority. Try to establish a bedtime routine for both you and your child.

  3. Stay hydrated Drinking plenty of water is essential for healthy skin. It can be easy to forget to drink enough water when you are busy caring for your child. Keep a water bottle with you at all times to remind yourself to drink enough water throughout the day, i have mine on my Google Calendar, I call it SIP OCLOCK.

  4. Find time for exercise, Exercise is not only good for your physical health but also for your skin's health and yes picking up endless toys and chasing them from doing something dangerous is EXERCISE. Regular exercise can help improve circulation, which can lead to healthier-looking skin. Find a type of exercise that you enjoy and can easily fit into your schedule, whether it's taking a walk or doing a workout video at home.

  5. Take breaks when you can Caring for a child with special needs can be demanding both physically and emotionally. It is important to take breaks when and if you can to avoid burnout. Use this time to do something that you enjoy, whether it's reading a book, taking a bath, or practicing self-care.
